The prevailing image of climate action in the Middle East often conjures visions of megaprojects: vast solar farms in desert landscapes, futuristic urban developments, and investments by sovereign wealth funds. This approach is rooted in the fundamental belief that Iraqis themselves, in all their diversity, possess the capacity to shape their nation’s energy future rather than passively awaiting its delivery.

This necessitates investing not only in the physical infrastructure of solar power but, crucially, in the people who will maintain these systems and in the farms, businesses, and livelihoods that reliable energy empowers.
